How After-Hours Call Forwarding Works

After-hours forwarding means your Grasshopper number redirects calls to another number (like Easybee) outside of your regular business hours. With Grasshopper, this can be set up automatically by defining your business hours and routing rules—no manual activation and deactivation required each day.

This setup ensures your clients always hear a live voice—even when you’re off the clock.

Option 1: Set Up After-Hours Forwarding Using Grasshopper Dashboard

Here’s how to configure after-hours forwarding directly from the Grasshopper web portal:

  1. Log in to your Grasshopper dashboard 
  2. Go to the Settings tab 
  3. Select Extensions and choose the one you’d like to configure 
  4. Under Call Forwarding, click Edit Schedule 
  5. Set your Business Hours (e.g., Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm) 
  6. Then, set where calls should forward outside of those hours 
    • Enter your Easybee number (e.g., 888-123-4567) 
  7. Save your changes 

Grasshopper will now forward all calls to Easybee automatically when you’re closed—no extra steps needed each day.

Option 2: Use the Grasshopper Mobile App

Prefer to manage forwarding on the go? Use the mobile app to control after-hours routing:

  1. Open the Grasshopper app 
  2. Tap on Settings, then Call Forwarding 
  3. Choose your extension and tap Edit 
  4. Adjust your Business Hours and After-Hours Forwarding Number 
  5. Enter your Easybee number 
  6. Tap Save 

This gives you mobile access to change your forwarding behavior anytime—perfect for solo professionals or small business owners.

On and Off Call Forwarding with Grasshopper

Sometimes, you may need to forward all calls—during a vacation, client visit, or team offsite.

To turn all calls on (temporarily):

  • In the dashboard or app, switch your extension to always forward to Easybee 
  • Revert back when you’re available again 

Grasshopper makes it easy to toggle this as needed.

Overflow Call Forwarding with Grasshopper

Grasshopper also allows sequential or simultaneous call forwarding, which is ideal for overflow:

  • You can add multiple numbers to your forwarding list (e.g., yourself first, then Easybee) 
  • If the first line goes unanswered, it rings the next one in line 

This ensures you still answer when available, and Easybee steps in only when you’re not.

To set this up:

  1. Navigate to your extension 
  2. Under Call Forwarding, add multiple numbers 
  3. Choose Sequential to ring one after the other 
  4. Place Easybee as the second or final backup 
  5. Save the settings
